Personally I think things are improving, although any circuit too narrow to offer reasonable overtaking opportunities is past it. However a famous car designer said 'Just reduce tyre width enough to induce opposite lock and let them do what they like with the rest of the car...'
What do you think?

Take a tip from banger racing. the winner of one race starts last in the next and so on through the field. Take the emphasis off pit stops and strategy. Make everyone take the same number of stops. Get rid of the blue flag rule, if someone wants to overtake it's up to them to do so, not rely on the other driver pulling over.
How many more do you want, I could go on for ages.

I agree with your statement. But reducing tyre width is not the right answer, if anything increase the tyre width and bring back slicks ( as they are doing for 2008) But you know the major thing that will increase the spectacle is to bring back some proper racing circuits rather than the Go Kart tracks we currently have throughout the calender. Also to stop making fuel and tyre stops mandatory for a team to win. The regs need to be loosened up to enable interpretation of the rules without being penalised every step of the way. That way we will have cars looking different and driving differently. The later will not happen until a lawyer (IE Max Moseley) is out of the top job. Moseley and Ecclestone have done a lot to increase the wealth of the sport but they have done nothing for the actual motor racing. Just remember the late 1970's through to late 1980's. I somehow remember that even though certain teams dominated (as they always have done though out the history of F1) the racing itself was much better. In 1986 we had a possible 4 drivers form 3 different teams who could have won the drivers title. When did that last happen?
Looking forward to this years season though, I think it will be a classic year for the modern day F1

I think F1 is already interesting enough. I don't have the expert knowledge of the technical side of things (unlike some of the responders here who obviously consider themselves as experts) to make any suggestions to changes in car/tyre specs, so I will leave that to those in charge of that.
I think one way they can improve F1 is its presentation in the multi media. For example, online live coverage, more onboard footage, more team-driver radio conversations, some of the telemetry data that are easily understood by audience, more pitwall action/conversations...wouldn't it be great hearing the talk between Jean Todt and Ross Brawn (well, not this year) just before a crucial pit stop? Or what is Flavio saying when Fisi gets overtaken by a McLaren (sorry, I'm not a good lip reader).
As for the "making-overtaking-easier" discussion, I think it's a little silly. If you make overtaking easier, then the faster cars will quickly overtake the slower ones, and once that's done, there will be no more overtaking for the rest of the race. You will never again see the likes of Schumi vs Alonso at Imola 2005/2006.

Formula One is interesting.

2007 is going to be hugely interesting largely because of the driver lineup. We have highly regarded rookies in top teams, we have new driver lineups in almost all teams. There is no more tyre war which may or may not help things out. F1 will seem fresh this year.

Overtaking isn't the be all and end all of F1, personally I like the tense battles on track that don't necessarily involve overtaking. Some of the battles Alonso and Schumacher have had in the past 2 years have been great to watch. I think there has been enough overtaking in F1.

Better TV coverage might help though, one solid TV provider and race director could provide a far more consistent show rather than some of the poor efforts we have had in recent years at times.

F1 is boring, it's become too safe, too commercialised and too political. The only GP race i enjoy is Monaco, which is has maintained the original format, which makes to racing more interesting, all the other circuits have become a fast parade procession and unless the leader breaks down, its a forgone conclusion. To make F1 interesting again they should take away a lot of the gadgets on the cars, and make the drivers drive the cars instead of the computers, make the circuits tighter and more challenging and last of all get ride of a lots of the rules that interfere with the basic formula

The problem is that teams have virtually unlimited funds and they spend vast amounts of money on things that NASCAR, IRL or any other league wouldn't even dream about. While this has created "super cars," it has also reduced the competitiveness of the league because the smallest difference matters so much. Teams are just too dominent now that it is a race to outlast, not a race to outperform. Therefore the best answer might be restricting the budgets of the teams so that there is less difference in the qualitiy of teams. An example of this would be when the IRL was formed, cars were alot cheaper than CART, thus allowing more competition.

Well first, most important thing has been already done:getting rid of Michael Schumacher. The second thing that could be done, is to kick off Bernie Eccelstone and his greedy hands off the F1 and all the teams he's working with. Additionally I suggest that all drivers should have the same car as it is in Indy cars series. Maybe then. Otherwise nothing will change. Like having toyota team with endless budget and minardi that can barely afford new tires, not even talking about new engine.
It's all about money money and once again money. It has nothing to do with sports anymore.

Using narrower tyres would help keep cornering speeds down, and would make racing in the rain better, since hydroplaning (aquaplaning) would be reduced, even if they stayed on slick tyres. And get rid of tyre and fuel stops again - force the cars to pass on the track, not in the pits. This would also force manufacturers to work on effiency as well as horsepower. Tyre changing could be allowed - it gets too dangerous if you can't change them - but with some sort of time penalty, to discourage the teams from abusing of the tyres. It would also be interesting to see how much downforce they can generate under the car by removing the rear wings, or at least dramatically reducing them. This would also help with passing on the track, since the car in front won't be taking all the downforce from the car behind.

Narrower cars would probably help, too - especially on tracks like Monaco, where it's almost impossible to pass. Builders would have to find other ways to make the cars stable. After all, the whole point of racing is to develop the technologies that will someday find their way into production cars. Remember, disc brakes, fuel injection, rack and pinion steering, overhead camshafts, 4 valves per cylinder, low profile tyres, alloy wheels, paddleshift transmissions, superchargers, turbochargers - these all started as racing innovations. So, we force them to make engines with good horsepower AND efficiency, cars that hug the road WITHOUT huge wings, tyres that offer good traction AND long wear.

I think I would also get rid of carbon fibre suspension and monocoque - its really too brittle for regular use on the road, therefore not something you'll ever find on mass-produced road cars. Imagine hitting a pothole! You could also require brake pads and discs to last more than one race - same as the engines - forcing them to develop longevity as well as braking power.

I don't think putting the fastest cars at the back of the grid would work. It would make the first corner too dangerous, and qualifying would be a joke. Everyone would be sandbagging, and who could blame them?

In any case, marrower tyres and narrower cars would certainly make for more passing on the track. Take away pitstops for tyres and fuel, and I think it would be great!
