i bought an hp dvd840 lightscribe enabled dvd drive, but when i put it in my computer didnt detect it. do i need a cd?

make sure all the wires are plugged in nice and tight, go to start, control panel, add new hardware!

is it a IDE drive....or SATA or what...if it is a IDE drive you might want to check the jumpers in the back and make sure that they are in the right spot. It is the little plastic thing that should be set to Master or Secendary....should be labeled in the back.

be sure both wires are in correctly. and that it is set to master or slave what ever is right for you
