Yeah if you have no personality or substance. How bout I have plenty of money and don't give my friends crap. They get pissed, but I'm not buying their friendship. They were my friends before I had it, so they can pretend I don't.

Solely on that equation, it can sometimes be true that having money means having friends, but most of the time it isn't. However, looking at other things, we may see that it has more of a correlation than we think.

Let's just say... A person with money usually can get whatever they want; wear the right clothes, have the right stuff, look beautiful, etc. People are instinctively attracted to these kinds of people because of their primal want to mate with someone who will be able to have kids with great genetics and a good start in life. Also, people who earned the money they have are generally charismatic and well-liked, so their friendships may not be solely based on the fact that they have money.

If we look at society today, however, the richest people are famous, have beautiful spouses, and are loved by millions of people worldwide. Is it because they are admired for earning their success or because people want to be them? Who knows, but because theyr'e rich they attain many fans. Maybe not true friends, but people who admire and look up to them.

So the answer, in the end, is yes, but in some instances, no.

Money = Materialism / Friend = Utility

Why we enjoy friends may seem to be an aura kind of thing but, we surely don't hang out with stupid and boring people. It is a statistical thing. Maybe we notice every time we hang out with them something interesting happens unconsciously.

People do not become friends if there is no benefit or obligation. Weather it's happiness, sympathy, boredom, money, intellect, values. There is a reason for the division of enemies and friends. Resources, power it's all a survival thing. We base value on everything. What value we apply is based on our principles and our principles to our environment. Which in turn can be as indirect as the media.

If you mean money brings friends, it is a really wrong equation.
If you mean money is friend, it depends on how you treat it, therefore is an equation with variable solution..
If your money might help your friends when in need, this is a right equation.

Maybe your friends. People who look for friends with money are not true friends. Maybe you should look at it this way, friends from your childhood have nothing to do with money because you didn't have money then (at least for me anyway) its what I like to call true friends. People who have been there since day 1.

yes it probably is right for some people. it's much the case with people from school, one day a girl can be miss popular, but the next when she has no money to go out, her so called friends don't want to know.

For me, it isn't.
Unfortunately, media is providing us evidence that the individualist culture approves this kind of values.
My point of view is that, there are moments in life when you'll figure it out by yourself if "money=friends".
