I live in daytona and know it would be tough, but just how tough would it be to make such a move? I know the cost of living is higher but the salaries are higher to arent? My main concern however are the earthquakes, how often do "tremors" occur?

Thanks,

Rick

Salaries are higher in California, but they generally do not offset the cost of living. Housing is the biggest expense, and is generally 2X for comparable housing in Florida. Another factor is the state income tax that you are required to pay in California. Florida has no state income tax. The climate is great and there are a million things to do, which makes LA popular. I lived in the south beach area for 6 years and loved it. But be prepared to lower your standard of living. If you have a house here, you may only be able to afford an apartment in the LA basin. Check out the cost of living differences using cost of living indexes available on the web. According to the free calculator at the Bankrate site:
http://www.bankrate.com/brm/movecalc.asp
LA is 48% higher than Orlando Florida. If you make $50,000 in Florida, you will need to make $74,100 to offset the cost of living. As far as earthquakes, tremors happen daily, but most of the time you do not feel them. You will have to trade Hurricanes in Florida with Earthquakes in California, probably a fair trade. Hope this helps!

I live here, in fact one of the rare few that was born and raised here, but I'm going to tell you only about the horrible side so NONE of you move here any more.

The city is sprawling - we are so spread out that there is no decent way to move around the city. Public transportation sucks. On weekdays, there is bumper to bumper traffic just about from 7 AM until 9 PM on all freeways and major streets. There is traffic on weekends, too, because of all the morons going to Las Vegas. Repairs on freeways are done at midnight on weekends, when you expect to be flying on the freeway, but surprise - there's a major jam, and it takes you an hour to get home.

The 'beautiful people' are incredibly annoying and fake.

Rent is ridiculous, but as ridiculous as it is, buying property is even more absurd - regardless of the neighborhood, any decent sized house is at least a half million dollars.

People are constantly moving here from other states and complaining how their original state was better - I TELL THEM TO MOVE BACK- WE DON'T NEED MORE PEOPLE MAKING TRAFFIC!!!!!!!!

So, L.A. is absolutely horrible- don't move here.

Well there are always minor tremors everyday, but they are so small you really don't feel it. CA is due for "THE BIG ONE" to hit, there is really nothing you can do but be prepared.
It's very expensive to live here( rent wise), it just depends on what area you choose to live in.

LA is very crowded and if you ahve to drive alot on a daily basis, not reccomended. The traffic is out of this world. I would say that it si more expensive as well, gas prices etc.
