Windows 98 is an Operating system. It has no control over proccessor speed. Windows 98 will run ok on anything from a DX-486 on up, providing there's at least 64mb(128mb recomended)RAM and sufficient HHD space. What killed any usefulness of these machines was the fact that the video on most of these was not upgradable to any higher than a 2mb 2d VGA.
IF Halo does not have a processor speed detector you may still be able to run it on a 600mhz (preformance will be low) Win 98 system if it has at least the following:
• DirectX: DirectX® 9.0 or later. (DirectX 9.0b is installed by Halo.)
• Memory: 128 megabytes (MB) of RAM.
• Hard Disk: 1.2 gigabytes (GB) of free hard disk space.
• Video card: 32 MB with 3D Transform and Lighting capable.
• CD: 8X.
• Sound: Sound card, speakers, or headphones with multiplayer play.
• *56.6 Kilobytes per second (KBps) modem or 10 MB network adapter. Multiplayer servers require broadband to run a server.
If the installer detects the processor, you will have to get a better computer. You really should highly consider a newer computer. Your 9 year old machine is not going to get you very far for much longer. Salvation Army Thrift Shops sell faster systems
I hope this is helpful to you.

Processor speed has nothing to do with your operating system. A processor is a hardware device that mainly does all the tasks on your computer, it's like the "heart and mind" of it. 600MHz is very low for Halo and 733 is not that good either, in order to upgrade you need to buy an new processor with more processing speed, or maybe you should consider getting a new PC.

That question doesn't make any sense. The processor speed is just that, the speed of the processor. Windows 98 is just the operating system interface that you chose to use to run your PC.
Halo will work with 733MHz, true, but you won't get good performance unless you have a MUCH better system.

first of all windows 98 is an operatin system, not a computer, secondly it depends on your motherboard as to what it can handle for processor speeds, and third, if you are still using windows 98 here in 2007, you need to get a new computer anyways as soon, you will find your computer not working with anything anymore.....unless you really just like the way 98 keeps crashing and losing support.

The processor speed is not determined by the operating system, but by the part inside of the computer. See if you can find out what model of processor is inside and look up the speed on it. I would not recommend playing a game like Halo on a 500mhz computer.

windows 98 is an OS
processor speed is based on the speed of your processor chip in your pc nad yours as you said is 600
you need a faster machine ~ it might run but slow and clunky
i did manage to run xp on only a 550 amd k2 chip once and it was ok

windows 98 is software (the program that runs on the hardware)
processor speed is all about hardware (the CPU - central processing unit)

windows does not have a processor speed....the computer does. If you must have 733MHz then you will need a newer or faster computer.

It all depends on what kind of computer you have. You might have had a good quality processor or a bad one.
