Microsoft Windows is written with C and C++, it took 15,000,000 lines of code to make Windows Vista. And there is no designer mode, all you do is coding and the testing. But they don't use and OS, if they did I would either say Windows NT or Unix, Well with vista they would use XP so that they can run Visual Studio, which is an application used to write C & C++.

Err, I think you mean what programming language is used to write Microsoft Windows!
XP is a Unix based system, using a mix of C++, and visual basic.

C and C++.
Most likely there is some assembly thrown in there at times to optimize speed in places.
Those are programming languages though. They most likely write it all on Windows XP SP2 boxes until their next OS is good enough, and then they write the new parts for it in itself.
