Those like the Williams sisters & Mauresmo are more likely to actually be in the media for their Tennis

Yes they do sometimes, but what sport don't they portray women into the (model) stereo type of toned body of a model. It's just that women's tennis is the most widely recognized than any other sport with women playing in it. Also, it requires just that type of body type to be good at tennis. You can't be buffs like in softball, basketball, or MetRx competitions. Don't underrate Sharapova's talent, and Anna Kournikova is only a rare case. Sharapova is both model quality yet got the true skills of a world class tennis player.

The female tennis players are strong, fit, powerful, and have to cultivate an intense fighting spirit to win tennis matches. All of these qualities are sexy, as well as inspirational. Plus, the most important matches of the year end up being played in front of thousands of people, putting these women on a very popular stage. If Sharapova or Hantuchova or Kournikova or any other female players want to embrace and capitalize on their sexiness, I say "Good for them!" The media is there to run with it because it's exciting, but I won't penalize another adult for celebrating what God gave them!

Sexual Objects maybe going a bit far, they are attractive players and they all have athletic bodies.

I'd much prefer that these ladies where premoted as being attractive and healthy as appossed to the current media suggestion that these skinny, anorexsic air heads such as Paris Hilton, Nicole Richie and Mrs Beckham are the ideal.

I watch a lot of tennis and I don't think they do now. Back when it was Kournikova, they did focus on her being pretty and all because that's all she had. She didn't have any game so they pretty much used her to draw in crowds to watch the game by focusing on her "aesthetics" in a manner of speaking. Now that the ladies are even prettier than her and with more powerful games, I think the ladies' tennis circuit is back to where it should be....but of course, they are more and more fashionably conscious.

the media would portray anyone as a sexual object as long as there could be a following or curiosity (read: possible to get a large market share per broadcast and sell the comercial spots around said broadcast for sponsors $$$$)

Only the hot ones. There aren't that many of them. If you notice, they do that in all sports. Look at the race car driver Danica Patrick. I think the tennis outfits have a lot to do with it all but hot is hot.

whats wrong with that...it sells. media is concerned with selling..if you buy the items on the commercial for that particular program then thats a success..the way to get anyone to stop selling a particular way is quit buying that way. if people no longer respond to tennis stars in that fashion then things will change.
