I learned a lot from watching poker on tv...I was surprised that you can pick up on different tactics just by watching them play a tournament on tv. Also, you can go to pokerstars.com- they have a great section on "how to play" the different pokers on their site. You can sit in on games and watch them play as well- and they have play chips so you won't feel so bad about losing so much. =) Once you get the feel for it- they have poker for real money too. Be careful because the play chips tables sometimes have morons that just go "all in" with any hand they get because it's play chips....

Have fun! I know I do!

There are a lot of easy places to find the rules to the game, Wikipedia and a simple Google search among them. If you understand the rules, but don't quite get the gameplay, then I might even suggest going out to see Casino Royale, the new James Bond movie, since it has a lot of scenes showing how the game is played in a formal setting, and even a bit of the strategy.

Also, there are different sets of rules for betting, even within the game of Texas Hold'em; No limit, etc. Make sure to check the rules on the website if you are playing on the web.

Play over the internet for free. Practice makes perfect!!! PokerStars and Pacific Poker are good free sites. You can also play for pennies there too if you want to play for real money without bustin the bank. There are internet players who hold there own against the pros all the time in big tournaments.
