Of course they do. If the media didn't no one would WATCH the female athletes because the men are naturally stronger.
In fact, if you've ever played Texas Hold 'Em, having an Ace/King is called the "Anna Kournikova": "looks good, plays like ****." The only reason she's well known is because she looks good on a poster.
Perhaps she should be thankful?

No.. if you're talking about Sharapova, she started modelling so that she could afford her tennis coaching so the modelling came first... then the big companies (Pepsi/cola etc.) use her in the add campaigns when she becomes a successful sports woman.
Kournicova, I believe, took the modelling route as she wasn't as successful at the tennis championships.. this then out-ran her tennis career.
Other than that I haven't seen many of the other big tennis players in the media.. when I have it has been purely about tennis.. I reckon a lot of them do a bit of advertising here and there but I've never seen media portraying people like Venus and Serina Williams as sex objects..
although I'm in Uk and that may be different in America.

Yes. The media, which is still largely run by and for men, treat ALL young women as sexual objects: nurses, poets, teachers, actors, accountants - in the public eye or not. Until we get to 40, when we plummet from the radar and become invisible in shops.
But hey, don't worry about it, love. Men are less dominant than they used to be - more and more media is by and for women, the people who matter recognise an athlete when they see one and you know what ? Now that I am invisible (although INCREDIBLY ATTRACTIVE you understand) I look back with affection on the days when I was treated as a sex object. It was a nuisance often, but I also had a lot of fun.

Media are sponsored by big name brands. It pays these brands to hype about beauty, and fitness rather than the sporting accolades of their proteges. Tennis is seen as a "gentle" sport (they must be kidding!) in comparison to Field sports - attended by the more affluent citizens of society rather than the masses. So here the Media do portray the ladies as sirens of the tennis courts - ladies tennis finals are now the bigger earners compared to men's finals - for both the "beauty" of the people in it as well as the beauty of the game!

Except the Williams Sisters, this has been the norm. Some players like Anna Kournikova and Maria Sharapova don't mind being fetish objects so sponsors should be laughing their way to the banks

Yes, but only as much as it portrays good-looking male footballers as sex symbols.
Apart from kournikova and Sharapova, most female tennis stars are shown as real athletes. (The William's sisters for example)

Yes I think that's true but the outfits of these tennis players don't leave much to the imagination - my husband often makes sexual comments when he watches these women play

No, the players themselves portrait the sexual atmosphere. Look at the clothing. They realize it is more lucrative to show some skin. Look at Kournikova, never won a thing but is one of the most recognized female tennis players.

Yes. I'm sick of hearing about it to tell you the truth. I don't care what kind of "pova" is playing this week and who the lucky guy is that is banging her or what kind of catsuit Serena is wearing on the court. Who gives a sh**t. I think all the basketball players need to start wearing those daisy dukes like they did back in the day so we can see what's going on.

Yeah. Have you noticed the most popular televised women sports are women's gymnastics, ice skating, and women's tennis...what do they all hv in common? The women athletes in these sports expose the most skin !!
