common question. The premium is a better deal because it comes with a hard drive (which he will need to save things and store memory or data). If you get the core, you will have to spend $100 for an additional hard drive which will then come out to be even more than what you would have spent for the premium (tax). But wait, it gets worse. Only the premium comes with the WIRELESS controller $(50). Believe me, it's much better to spend $400 for the premium and be good to go than spend $300 for the core and have to spend another $150 to be able to save and play wirelessly. Also, don't forget that the xbox 360 is now outdated because it is not as new as the Nintendo Wii or Playstation 3. Thus, you will now be able to find them used for an even lower price. Same places you can shop around for them include:
Best Buy
Circuit City
Costco
EB Games/Gamestop
FYE
Funcoland
Good Guys
Sam goody
Sears
Suncoast
Target
Walmart
Best of luck to ya. Shop around for the best bargain
But don't forget, only the Nintendo Wii has the new motion sensor controllers and only costs $250 and only Playstation 3 can play Blu-ray (Hi-definition) Movies.

There is nothing wrong with the 360. It does not blow up, and it does not overheat if you take care of it. Just put the 360 on an open shelf away from the radiator or any other areas where it can get hot.
The difference between the Premium and Core:
1. 399.99 vs. 299.99
2. 20 gb hard drive included vs. no hard drive included. (You need the hard drive to save games and to play SOME but NOT ALL XBX games. If you don't plan on playing XBX games on the 360, you can skip the hard drive, but you'll still need to get a memory unit to save games. It's quite expensive for its storage size.)
3. Wireless controllers vs. Wired controllers out of the box. (The core can use wireless controllers, but the core package only includes the wired controller, while the premium includes a wireless controller.)
4. Component-Composite combo cables vs. composite cables.
5. Chrome tray vs. regular tray.
6. White box vs. Green box.
You're better off getting the premium because you get more bang for the bucks than the core. The hard drive is 100 bucks, so right there, you already made up the difference.
Right now, he might be a little too young for the 360 because there aren't that many games available for someone his age. Viva Pinata is the only game that I can think of that's appropriate for his age. I would say most (70 to 80%) of the 360 games will have the M rating.

dont get the core, you will end up paying more to upgrade it to the premium edition. The core 360 does not come with a memory card or a harddrive. You need some thing to save data on. The premium 360 does come with a harddrive. I would buy the premium

Don't get the core (needs addons) it will cost him more in the long run as he grows older.
get the premium system it comes with a hard drive to store and save games as well as download games, music etc... without havng to purchase these addons seperately. It will allow him to upgrade via the internet with little hassle.
Both systems heat up and can get the red light of death. so limilt his game play to an hour or so at a time.
As a parent be cautious when it comes to online play with the head set on he will be exposed to not age appripriate language and topic. Supervise him while he is online during network play. Petifiles a plenty on the net.
Ms. cola*** my son raked leaves for neighbors, vaccummed houses, and did odd jobs for neighbors and saved up for a yamaha motocross motocycle $1100 by age 7, so kids who are goal orientated and self disiplined can do it. He has since purchased a cr 80 and honda 250.

The core package is $300 and the premium is $400. All the core package has is the system and the wired controller while the premium has the system, 20 GB hard drive, wireless controller, cable for xbox live and headset for xbox live. The core comes ready for a starndard television, while the premium is HDTV ready.

you should just go ahead and get the premium... the core doesn't have a hard drive. it's more expensive, but worth the add'l cost. besides the HD, the premium makes you wire-free with the controllers.
if he's only 10, mark my words: watch what he buys. I'm 30 and I can tell you some of the games out there are too bloody for me.

the xbox is already a year old and it doesnt do 1080p ...save 100.00 more and get a PS3
PS3 because its the only true hd gaming system out with HDMI and 1920x1080p games.
EA developers have only unlocked 20 percent of its power,Blu-ray has won( more companys signed on also holds more data in games meaning bigger levels better graphics more GAMEPLAY, also wi-fi plays like a dream
and for the wii fans ps3 has the same ability to steer ,balance, melee, ect with the controller sensing ...also i have had one since dec 6 2006 and never once froze or overheated like the xbox360 did at its launch
