I went to the dealership this weekend to change the oil in my car and rotate the tires.

Because I have been at that dealership for service before, they pulled up my history by LAST NAME instead of by my car's VIN.

Shortly after getting home, I realized that they recorded the service under my previous car's VIN because this was the first time I took the new car there and they had no way of knowing I changed vehicles.

My previous car was stolen a couple of months back -- and now, because of this error, it looks as though I took my last car to be serviced instead of the new one.

I don't like this.

Can I have the records fixed (after the fact)? Not only does this make it look suspicious (that dealership reports to carfax) but I also missed out on recording the service visit on my new car's record!

If anyone who works at Ford is reading this: PLEASE PULL UP CUSTOMERS' INFORMATION BY THEIR VIN!!!

i own a repair shop, and yes they can correct this problem, and i don't blame you for being upset a little, but you need to get in contact with them first thing Monday morning and make sure they get this straitened out,i always use my customers name and Vin number to service their cars with, this way they can get an accurate read out ,of whats been done to it once I'm done servicing it,when i print it out ,it has the right info on it,,but id get this straitened out first thing, they wont give you no hard time about it,for them it was an honest mistake, good luck with it,i hope this help,s.

most dealerships are on the adp system, or reynolds and reynolds. easy fix. complain a little to the service manager, about your inconvenience, and they will happy to supplement your next visit with a free oil change, or something.
