If there is...and if it works on anyone.......does it ?.........why is it not used on criminals instead of the trial and jury system?

Yes and no. There are so-called truth serums out there, but they are never 100% reliable, just like a lie detector test cant be 100%.

Truth serum "confessions" could never be used in a court of law in the U.S. But it's used all the time in covert spy work.

Actually, LSD was developed in 1943 initially to be used as a truth serum, but found to be ineffective. It however produced hallucinogenic effects that made it a popular drug starting in the 60's.

Yes. Sodium Pentathol (not sure about the spelling) is considered truth serum.
It would be considered a violation of human rights to use truth serum on the accused. Testimony given under the influence of the serum would probably be thrown out. And a person is innocent until proven guilty.

Truth serum does exist. It is called sodium pentathal. We have the Fifth Ammendment in the US, which protects a person from making incriminating statements.
Also, there is evidence that truth serum is not 100% reliable. Allegedly some people can be made to say what you want them to say.
It's like lie detector tests. They are not 100% reliable. Some people can lie and beat the test. So lie detector tests are not admissable.

There is such a thing but usually it is illegal to use physical methods to force a confession. Technically it is a type of mild poisoning and as such is counted as torture.

Yes to a small degree. However it isn't reliable. I've read that induced persons imagination comes into play. This causes the person to say things that aren't real, but stuff they think is real.
