Musicians are no longer encouraged to demonstrate their talents and their abilities in the public forum. Many such musicians feel pressured by the amount of cheap and tacky groups/persons who are only aired due to some public vote or desperate talent scouts.
The true geniuses are those who are not in for the profit in the music industry, but who perform for the beauty and pleasure of music and its artform. These people dont care about being found and made famous, but are those who are really gifted and deserve our gratitude for their amazing gifts.

You're not looking in the right places, try listening to Muse for a start. Some wicked musicianship there and what a voice that man has got!! Also, is technical ability really all that? I mean, look at Dragon Force, those guys have got some ability, but they're still a pretty tedious band. Even the old school guitar Jesuses like Steve Vai and Joe Satriani (however you spell their names) were pretty boring really. I think creativity and ingenuinty are more important than simple technical ability, look at Nirvana!!

There are a lot of marvelously talented musicians still around and more that are on their way up in the world !! You just don't hear about them because they are not pursued by the labels anymore---it is not the "in" thing to have technically good music available to people because it simply doesn't do that well in the marketplace anymore !!

Right now in Yahoo Answers there is a question where some girl is hunting for the name of the "Artist" that "sings" a "song" that goes ---- "look at that shorty in the thong thong tha thong thong"
---THESE are the ARTISTS that are making the multiplied millions and using true musicians work to "sample" background beats and melody for their "masterpieces" of "spoken" "music" -- It is the dumbing down of America---most of it sells because the "peeps" have been told that that is what's "cool" and they don't have a mind to know better for themselves !!
When you have people like Carlo Santana and John Meyer etc forced to share the stage with people like Snoop Dog and Bow Wow at actual Music Award Shows---what the hey here ??

You wouldn't ask that if you had been to see BB King and Gary Moore in concert in Manchester recently give Planet Rock on DAB and the web a listen. My grandson is 22 and has been playing blues rock guitar for 10 years, practises at least 2 hrs a day but is still looking for a band cos the record companies want the garbage that passes as musik these days

no,but the whole world has changed and every one hunts money not quality.A60's guitarist for example needed time and pain in ordrer to play well and give the crowds a good result..A today's guitarist knows only the basics and plays easy commercial songs. That's why you think musicians have lost their technical abilities my friend, they leave everything at machines

No, musicians haven't lost their technical ability, they are just not encouraged to show it. A bit like reading and intelligence, really.
