I was told that a university (I believe they said University of Michigan) did a study listing all the attributes of a potential presidential canidate, then asked if a person would vote for them. Without knowing the identity of the person, some 60% said yes. It turns out the person was Hitler. Did this study take place? And, if so, is there anywhere to read it?

I don't know about that specific study but there has been a lot of research on the personality type. you can find it here

There was a similar case where somebody went around trying to get people to sign the Declaration of Independence and was almost killed.

i'm guessing the test only offered attributes of the person, like their leadership skills, not their beliefs. i doubt hitler would be chosen if they knew he was an antisemite and a criminal. but it souds interesting and possible.
