what state do you live in? In New York there is an organization called freelancers union that allows part-timers to purchase health insurance through their group plan. Your state might have something similar. You should also check into medicare. As a pregnant woman, you are automatically covered by medicare.
Although you will eventually need to see a doctor, you may be able to do some detective work before. Do you have any other symptoms other than irregular periods?
Next, you can certainly track your periods to see if you are ovulating. Just b/c your periods are irregular does not mean you are not ovulating. Try an LH detector kit, charting your basal body temperature and cervical mucus. See babyhopes.com for more information.
Finally, I would recommend securing insurance before starting any fertility treatment testing. Once you start fertility testing, it will be hard to get private insurance because insurance companies do not like the cost associated with fertility treatment.

The quick answer is that with irregular peroids and infertility for several years, you will need a through work-up, you may need to apply for medical assistance in your area and get evaluated. In short, sound like you may have specific reasons for an irregular peroids and infertilty.

Try taking birth control pills for a couple months to get your cycle regulated.....then see what happens. But you would have to get a prescription for those. Have you tried those ovulation predictors?? I believe you can buy them OTC.
