I've bowled in many leagues & followed the pros off & on. As stated the best bowlers (all the good pros) use a hook of some type. It requires a great deal of practice to develop, & also being able to adjust for variables like alley surface quality (recently oiled, very dry, hard).

A sraight bowler (me) can still turn in very competitive scores, but avoiding splits, & making spares is will still make or break your game overall.

People who bowl with a good hook can bowl very high scores. Although, you need to be very good at bowling with a hook. It would take a long time to learn how to get. And depending on how much curve you give the ball and you don't put enough spin on it, it will often go in the gutter. On the other hand, straight bowling is more efficient but straight bowlers tend to have more consistent yet lower scores. Hope that helps.

Use the arrows on the bowling lane to roll the ball over and be extra precise alongside with your throws. Swing the ball like a pendulum use as much less muscle as conceivable. attempt to hit the pins in the two the a million-2 or a million-3 pocket.
