Most people in London are so embroiled in their own lives that they don't think about what can happen if the worst comes to the worst. Plus they're running out of space - they're building the olympic village on flood plains FFS!

London is a very big place and only about 10-15% is at a significant flood risk.

Not all Londoners live on the banks of the Thames.
There is quite a lot of high ground. e.g. Hampstead is 100m above sea level, Mayfair is 35m, (according to Google Earth).

It depends which bit of London you're talking about. Also, most people don't worry about hypotheticals - London is the place to be for work, culture, fun.
