It is true. Pippen wasn't great without Jordan. But in 1994, he nearly led the Bulls past the Knicks while Jordan was playing baseball. Baylor is great without West, West was great without Baylor. But, Stockton and Malone were great because of each other.

Scottie Pippen was a great player regardless, in the season that jordan wasnt there (1994) he very nearly took the bulls all the way. The only reason i think people have this conversation is because of just who the other person was in the pairing, if scottie was on any other team he would still have gotten great stats and helped his team win its jst the fact he was on he same team as arguably the greatest player ever that this argument continues, oh and if it wasnt for pippen jordan might not have won those titles does anyone remember jordan of the 80's he was basically like kobe, but a better team player.

Well, let's review the facts.....
For the 1993 season, playing WITH Michael Jordan, Pippen's numbers looked like this:
18.6 ppg
7.7 rpg
6.3 apg
48% fg ptg.
AFTER Jordan retired, the next season, Pippen's numbers looked like this:
22 ppg
8.7 rpg
5.6 apg
51% fg ptg
The following season (1995), Pippen became only the 2nd player in history to lead his team in points, rebounds, assists, blocks, and steals. Jordan returned that year for only the final 17 games.
If Scottie Pippen was not great without Jordan, then why did he put up the best numbers of his career WITHOUT JORDAN?
Another thing to consider.....Jordan NEVER had a team play above .500 until Pippen joined the Bulls in 1988.
Chicago's record in MJ's last year before his first retirement was 57-25. Everyone thought the Bulls would fall apart without Jordan there. What was the Bull's record their first year without Jordan? 55-27. They only won two games less, WITHOUT JORDAN.
Jordan played 5 seasons without Pippen. In those five seasons, Jordan had 5 losing records, missed the playoffs twice, and was 1-9 in the playoffs.
Jordan NEVER had a winning record without Pippen. But Pippen played on MANY playoff teams when he played with Houston and Portland.
So, in answer to your question, NO, Pippen WAS great with or without Jordan. Not sure if the same can be said for Jordan though.

One needed the other. its just the part of the game. But you have to remember, it wasn't always Pippen or Jordan that came to the rescue all the time. It was Steve Kerr. He was pretty much the 3 point clutch guy.
of course, there WAS Shaq and Kobe, but we know now that Kobe needs Shaq.
Shaq doesn't need Kobe.
But
Shaq needs Wade to go for another!

I believe he was a good player NOT GREAT. When you look at his stats after the chicago hayday with Jordan, he's pretty much an average player.
