Re. "How about asking what our Mothers and Grandmothers did that was "right"." -- I don't know how much of the "considered "wrong"" stuff will actually turn out to be "wrong." Judging this ain't.

Well the one that shocked me the most was a story my Grandmother told me. She had babies in the 20's and babies were to be changed, fed, and put to bed. No loving or kissing or just holding. If you did that to your baby you were "mollycoddling" and a bad parent. Thank You Dr. Spock

Just remember in 50 years your grandchildren will be analyzing what YOU are doing wrong.
I can also remember in the 60's every time you turned around the news was saying we shouldn't eat butter but use margarine and they have reversed the thinking on that one. We only think we know best.
How about asking what our Mothers and Grandmothers did that was "right".

Well, other than not using any form of restraint in the car, I think my grandmother did a hell of a good job raising my dad and his 10 brothers and sisters. She breastfed all of the kids til she got pregnant with the next one, and the last one she nursed til he was 15 months. They are all healthy, productive members of society, so I figure she and Grandpa did a pretty good job.

Feeding solids at three months (for my sister -- i was exclusively breastfed for 12 months, which was taboo in 1978), feeding foods like peanut butter (before age 2), citrus (before age 1), and honey (before age 1). Also, my mother was told to have a cigarette while she was in the bathroom when she was pregnant with me (to help constipation) and to have a glass of wine at bedtime (because I was so active in utero). Obviously, putting babies to sleep on their bellies and spanking. And using alcohol for teething.

My mom used to give me a chicken bone to chew on when I was teething. This was when I was about 4 months old ... but I turned out just fine!

My aunt's doctor told her to drink a glass of wine every day to help her relax during her pregnancy.

Oh my god I could write an essay on what is now considered "wrong" that used to be considered "normal".
Sleeping position, what & how the babies are fed, how to treat common ailments, medicines that were used, expectations of babies & chrn it goes on and on.
