It started in New York City. It was all the rave and it's what everyone looked forward to on the weekend! Rap was somewhat a "spinoff" of disco because the DJ's at the discoteque would talk to the dancers via the microphone and get the non dancers on the dancefloor!

I thank God that I made it through the mid- and late- seventies without ever owning a leisure suit or a pair of white shoes or belt. Watch the old John Travolta film to get a good idea of the clothes. The sixties and early seventies were characterized by people "doing their own thing" on the dance floor, with no physical connection to their "partners," who became almost superfluous. Partnership dancing made a big comeback with a dance genre that has since been named "the Hustle," and you can check the song of that title on one of the music sites for a good idea of the music.

Saturday night fever put disco into high gear,and studio 54 was where all the action was.High heels and swirling dresses with a big glass disco ball and the funkiest funk music you have ever heard.money and drinks flying around like water.

I know they wore a lot of polyester. All you had to do was light a match and the whole disco would burn down !!!
