Besides the obvious physical connection, an Ethernet card can connect to a LAN at up to 1000Mbps (usually they are 100Mb cards though) while a wireless card usually connects at 54 or 11 Mbps. This is not a big difference while using the Internet, but it can be a huge difference in local file access.

both actually do the same job and hook up to your computer the same way. the difference is that with a network card you plug the cable into the back of your computer and the wireless you don't. To use a wireless card you would also need a wireless router or an Internet "hot spot"
