First it will wipe out everything edible and unedible.
Just like Tsunami. Which has created havoc in the life of many and even today the word tsunami frightens them.
The bare necessities should be (available) required for survival.

waterproof matches, a gun and plenty of bullets. seriously, others are gonna want to survive more than they want you to survive.
there is no disaster that makes matches and guns NOT work
addendum: i live within the incineration radius us of a primary target, so i dont care :-)

salt, water, good hunting knife, bow and arrows, guns, fishing equipment, an axe/hatchet. Also good shoes/boots...and don't forget your hat.
