formalin is Fromaldehyde HCHO solution in water. it can be up to 30% w/w

vinegar is acetic acid CH3COOH solution in water. normal household vinegar is 1.5-3% in acetic acid.
But you can distill it and obtain glacial acetic acid 99% because boiling point of acetic acid is 121°C so it's quite easy to separate from water.
In vinegar there are also polyphenols and sugar. naturally occurring from the alcohol you used to produce the vinegar.
Stardard vinegar is made from apples or from wine.

Going on memory, it is a 40% solution of formaldehyde. Formaldehyde promotes damage to DNA and thus has cancer causing potential. My old USP XVIII edition gives the analytical method to identify and assay formaldehyde on page 843. The analytical method invovles oxidation with H2O2 followed by titration. This is an old book, they might use a different method now. Check at a local public or university library in their USP or ASTM sources. My wife bought an offbrand Turkey for Thanksgiving a couple of years ago, I could smell formaldhyde in it, I threw it away. I wanted to contact the FDA but the label was in the trash.
