Depending on where you are in each country.....in the US I've only ever heard fat as an adjective. Here in Canada, depending on the province, it will be:

Fat - Most urban centres especially Toronto
Out of shape - Any city/town where sports is the sun around which people orbit. ie. Vancouver, Calgary, Whistler.....
A little round - most rural towns anywhere
A bit heavy - Cities in the east
Normal - most places in Nova Scotia

Depends on the age of the person they're talking to. Chubby is usually for children, plump for adult women. Stocky or husky is for men. A rather fat, older woman that you like and respect would be referred to as "heavyset."

nahh just call it chubby for two reasons a) chubby sounds like something you need to do something about (which is often the case) b) plump sounds like something i'm going to eat later

Slightly overweight? Usually husky if you're a guy. Other than that, you are called a "fat slob", in America...worse in California.

Round is a common term I heard. It always made me think of a fluffed up game bird, like a grouse, when it gets cold.

They call them fat or obese. Either way, it is definitely an epidemic in our Nation. Children today in America are heavier than they have ever been. It is a sad fact.
