Are we OK with most everyone being a liar?

Question

You know the deal, good work boss, oh I was late because, yes I did it, no I didn't,,,,,,
oh you look great, didn't she/he do well, that's fair, that isn't fair,
etc etc ad naseum and these are essentially 'good' people.
Examples like the above in my 30 yr office career are legion.
In earlier times I lived on the street and it's far worse there and has not changed. Media is the kingdom of the lie as is dogmatic religion, let alone what happens in politics and Gov.

So are we ok with nearly all of us being liars?

Liars are people looking to cover something up for one reason or another. Are there sometimes where as telling the truth will only be used against you. Like if we told the world when troops are withdrawn from Iraq, don't you think others would try and capitalize on it? I don't like being lied to. But not telling really isn't the same as lying.

Is it a lie when you are getting results? Words are very affordable, much less expensive than breaking in new employees. If a little white lie can keep all smooth working and people happy what is the problem? Surprise parties are lies, so would that be bad too? Broken promise lies are bad, but not all lies are bad.

Opinions are not lies. We are all individuals and we all have varying opinions, you may not agree that he/she did well, maybe you are a cynic, I don't know, but the example of lies are open to opinion.
Some people genuinely have good opinions of other people. It is true most people lie at some time, but for most important things, most people are honest enough.
Exercise caution in your business affairs for the world is full of trickery, but let this not blind you to what virtue there is- many persons strive for high ideals- and everywhere life is full of heroism.

depends if the lie will hurt someone or not and also if you expect someone to tell the truth (if they've done something wrong and made a mistake) you have to be responsible and be prepared to forgive them. there is no way people will tell the truth when they are faced with eternal damnation... but I do agree, generally it is NOT ok to lie but often the liars probably feel worse with tons of guilt than the people they are lying to.

liars will have their day!!!!
people lie to cover their butts, plain and simple. they do not want the person to think bad things about them so they make up this lie to make them look good, or to push the blame onto someone else. If you mess up, do not lie about it, become a man, and fess up about it. More people will respect you for admitting your mistakes......

we live in a world as is to say what in life is really true.we can belive in what we are told,or what we see.but life is a job a big one and a hard one.i think every one has gone there at one time or another.but you belive what makes you happy becase what is the real truth in life

there's alot of different types of lying. it makes for a civilised society in some cases and smooths the edges. do you really want to know what everyone honestly thinks of you? thought not, you'd be in therapy within hours!

I don't mind. Working out the lies is half the fun in life. It's not all lies though as half the time it's due to stupidly unrealistic promises.

i dont belive people like to lie but i feel that lies are often used to aviod the problems that telling the truth can cause

im ok with that kind of lying, yes. there's a fine line between telling the truth and being a dick.
