My furnace seems to be heating only half of the upstairs. The left side of the house is warm but the right is not. What could the problem be?I've checked to see that the vents are open. Serious answers please. Thanks.

This is a brand new furnace. I checked the vents as well as the levers on the ductwork in the basement to make sure nothing was closed. There is nothing on or infront of the vents on the floor.I'll call the guy who put the furnace and ductwork in and have him check it out. Hopefully he wont charge much.

verify that the vents are open AND clear of obstructions. close the vents on the side that is working well and see if the other side increases in volume. May just need to adjust the vents.

If this section of the house is an "add on" you may need to boost the air volume with a small blower.

Close the vents half way on the side that is warm, see if that helps.

Besides the obvious vent outlets, metal ducts often have a handle that moves a flap to help balance airflow throughout the building. Make sure none of these have closed by themselves. You don't have two separate thermostats, do you? They both need to be set. Also, if the warm side of the house is in direct sunlight, you might be getting enough heat from large windows to keep the furnace from running long enough during the day.

Both answers above are excellent answers, I can only add if the thermostat is in direct sunlight this could give a false reading to it.

When was the last time this system worked properly? Have you move furniture over vents? Is the cold air duct open and filter clean? Does this happen at night as well as day? Sometimes in the air duct itself there are shut off valves, normally in where the duct branches off the main line, are these open? Is the shut off to that main line open?

dog warrior is confused therm is good because half of house is hot meaning furnace is running
sounds like an obstruction in the return air
something sitting in front of or on top of grilles
also like some one else said dampers could need adjusted as well may not even have return air on that side
