Well "obviously" when I was at school I was "obviously" more interested in kicking a ball so "obviously" all I left school with was GCSE football and "obviously" I am a bit thick because of that "obviously"
Now listen out, that's the real catchphrase, you wait for the pre-match interviews in the suits on FA Cup final day. It's a scream. I think because it has 4 sylables they think it sounds inteligent so use it all the time

For lots of the reasons given before, but I wouldn't mind betting that the person being interviewed earns a lot more money than you. Remember the parable of the talents. We should all do our best with what we have been given. However, it is is interesting to see American Golfers being interviewed, in general, they are very articulate and perhaps receive tuition in how to speak to the Media, which makes you wonder why our footballers don't receive advice and tuition in those fields, they certainly have enough time on their hands.

well, most of the players (referring to many pros, as they were drafted after finishing college) have enough of an education to speak well infront of a camera. With that said, I am only somewhat surprised when I hear an interviewed player saying "ya know," "cuz we", and "we be like."
I think that despite whatever education many of those players have, they are just centered on their sport and it is their focal point; at least for the season.
I would like to point out one of many exceptions, being Peyton Manning's interview after the Patriot's game. I thought he was well-versed when speaking about not thinking of vindication and just performing to his best in each game.

there are more foreigners players in English,Spanish and Italy league (for example)....they are the key players in their squad..sit means they are the great player and show a best performance...so, they easily to interview by reporter....
in that case....they just only use a basic English in their interview....and da words "y'know?" seems like to backup their speech for certain word that they dint know...o maybe they use when they take time to think some words to speaks....
in other word...this is a habit.... not juz football player but anyone....

Uk footballers are not the most intelligent people on earth. That's why so few play overseas.
In other countries, such as Holland and Denmark, more intelligent types play the game.

I've noticed that as well! ..The only explanation I can think of is that there diction is limited and they don't feel comfortable when being interviewed on TV and Radio. The same principal as constantly scratching your face or something....."y'know!!"

agree with you. Also, they are unable to say "he said" or "she said". Instead, a typical sentence is something as:
"he was, like, y'know put the ball in the net, and I was, like, yeah ok, you know what I mean, and he was, like, yeah man..."
and so on. Ridiculous useless wastes of air with no meaning.
Ooooooooh I'd get them right out to grammar and elocution lessons right away!

Probably they learn it from other football players that they look up to so it is in a way contagious.

Because they're poorly educated and inarticulate as they wasted their youth playing football instead of doing something intellectual now and again.
