expensive ... but not as much as putting diesel in a petrol car

How much of the fuel is replaced by the wrong type. I had a friend who put gas in a diesel engine, and I told him to ADD Diesel to it and run it out. It was OK after that. DO NOT take a long trip from home before this is done. You can also drain the fuel tank, and fill it up with the proper fuel and that should do it. WHENEVER you get the chance keep adding Diesel Fuel to the tank to replace the gasoline. DRAIN THE TANK FIRST as I have said and that will probably save you some expense as if you take it to a garage they will stick it to you if you do not know anything about cars and they know that.

very few cars have a drain plug in the tank - that would be far too easy! - you can either drop the lowest hose off the tank you may need to release the tank retaining straps too to get an angle to aid the drain - the fill it up with diesel - if its an old car it should be fine you`ll need to loosen the fuel lines to the injectors and have some one turn the car over till diesel comes out - then close them up while continuing to turn the engine over until it fires.
if you ran it you`ll need to change the filter and blow out the lines before you begin the bleeding process. if its a newer type diesel just drain the tank filter etc. then just turn the engine over these generally have a pump in the tank to get the fuel up but they are much easier to damage internally

My recommendation is to drain the tank. syphon it if ness.
insert a new fuel filter £10,
put in a Diesel fuel additive and run the vehicle at idle for about 30 mins.
Depending on model and make of vehicle the access port is usually found under the carpet in the boot or under the rear seats.
Diesels are seen to be 'dirty', this is not true the injectors etc run on a much tighter tolerance to any petrol engine, so its important not to run any petrol through, causing damage to injectors could set you back as much a £300 each injector.
If you dont feel up to the job at all, take it to the main dealer and their charge should be anywhere from £100-£250, at this point they wont guarantee about any further damage though. DONT DRIVE IT ANYWHERE.

First if you car is a newer Common Rail Diesel (Mercedes CDI, VW TDI etc..) Do not run the car.. have it towed and drained. Running a Common Rail Diesel with gasoline in the tank will destroy the engine.

If you have an older diesel and there is more diesel in the tank then gas, just top off with more diesel and your should be ok.

Best bet for you is have the tank drained and refilled.

in case you in basic terms have been given 2-3 gallons of diesel interior the tank, you would be ok. the motor vehicle might run undesirable for some days yet will sparkling up. in case you only might desire to do some thing simply by fact your judgment of right and incorrect is bothering you..... flow to the closest factors abode, get 2 bottles of the final gasoline injector purifier you will hit upon, positioned those in after whichcontinualcontinualcontinual the motor vehicle. next tank of gasoline fill with top rate and overlook all approximately it. My son used the incorrect gasoline can and positioned 5 gallons of diesel in a single of my vehicles as quickly as, all I did grew to become into fill with top rate andcontinual. It wont harm the engine while diluted adequate. So concern not.

if the car is still running normally, then you should fill it up with diesel (full tank) immediately so that there is less amount of petrol and more diesel in it then you should be fine because that's what i did two weeks back.

If you've driven it - an arm and a leg! If you've not driven it, hardly anything. Remove the fuel line drain it, empty the tank via the drain plug. Should be fine.
