Hi. I have the free version of AVG anti spyware in my laptop, but I was told that after a month the resident shield or something like that stops working. Do I have to find and install another anty spyware? If so which do you recomend?

I also have AVG Anti Spyware 7.5. After the trial period of 30 days, the resident shield and the automatic update don't work anymore. You'll just have to update it manually. I think it is a good anti spyware program. You should continue to use it. Get Windows Defender as the resident shield . WD is very good at detecting changes to your computer settings and gives you the option to allow or block the changes. WD is quite lenient with regard to cookies from news sites as compared to AVG AS but WD is only available if your XP is genuine. .. A good alternative would be Spybot Search&Destroy. It's free and also has resident shield. Updating is manual but it can be set to remind you on startups. BTW I am using all these 3 programs.

That is an excellent question. The AVG anitspyware use to be Ewido antispyware. AVG bought them several months ago.
To answer your question, if you are only running AVG Antispyware as your primary Antispyware then yes you will need another. AVG Antispyware will still be able to be used manually, and should, just the auto scan feature will be disabled. I would keep is along with AdAware SE to run manually about once or twice a month.
I have it and a², Spybot, MS Defender, and Antispyware Guard. There are other good antispyware but these are the ones I use and recommend. I also use AVG free antivirus and have not been infected in over 3 years.

Here is a link that has most of the better freeware security softwares.

It will continue to work as an on demand scanner, you can run a quick scan every day and a full scan once a week.
Or you can pay and it will remain running in the background.
In any case whatever you choose its a good idea to add Spybot S&D and Spywareblaster; they won't conflict.

http://www.safer-networking.org - Spybot Search and Destroy anti spyware. Use the Teatimer settings to protect Internet Explorer, and the Immuniser to stop malware getting on your pc.
Spywareblaster works with Internet Explorer and Firefox. It won't uninstall spyware that is already on your pc, but it will prevent hijacks and other malicious changes to your browser.

no dont think you have to..the resident shield sort of starts up when your computer starts up to block spyware..even if you dont have it turned on, you can always scan your laptop every week or so.

There's Spybot, and SuperAntiSpyware, which are both very good.
You can also update AVG at any time.
