The 360 does not have the capabilities as the PS3 right out of the box. To get near the same capabilities of the PS3, the 360 needs several additional accessories, which makes it more expensive than the PS3.
Let's start:
#1: Blu-Ray for PS3, and HD-DVD for 360. Guess what? Blu-ray is available right out of the box, while you need to spend 200 bucks for the HD-DVD add-on player. That right there makes the 360 equal to the PS3.
#2: PS3 has Wi-Fi out of the box. Guess what? You need to spend 100 bucks to get the MS Wi-Fi adapter. That's another 100 bucks.
#3. PS3 has various card readers. What does the 360 have: Memory unit. Price? Unknown, but probably around 100 bucks.
#4. What does the 360 have that the PS3 doesn't have? The component cables, so subtract 50 buck (a little high) from the total.
#5. Let's not forget about online. Sony's free, while MS charges 50 bucks a year. So, if the 360 lasts 5 years, that's another 250 additional bucks. But this is a lame reason because XBL is far superior than PS3's online
Do the math, and you'll see that in the end, the 360 costs more than the PS3. The only reason why people say that the 360 costs less than the PS3 is because MS isn't forcing people to buy a next gen player with their console. That's the big reason. If Sony didn't include the Blu-ray player in the PS3, the PS3 would probably be around the price of the 360 or cheaper.
Who cares if the PS3 is expensive. For those who can afford it, why shouldn't they buy it if they want it?
Why do people buy the PS3. Could it be because of the history of the PSX and PS2? They're the only 2 systems to ever sell 100 million units. People who likes the PS2 games will no doubt get the PS3 because they want to continue playing PS2 sequels. PS3 also have more 3rd party support, so it will have more games than the other systems. They can also watch HD movies if they have a HD TV.

PS3 because its the only true hd gaming system out with HDMI and 1920x1080p games.
EA developers have only unlocked 20 percent of its power,Blu-ray has won( more companys signed on also holds more data in games meaning bigger levels better graphics more GAMEPLAY, also wi-fi plays like a dream
and for the wii fans ps3 has the same ability to steer ,balance, melee, ect with the controller sensing ...also i have had one since dec 6 2006 and never once froze or overheated like the xbox360 did at its launch
XBOX360 DOESNT DO 1080P!!! :p

A good argument is that you can play BluRay discs on a PS3. A BluRay disc player can cost you around $500, so the PS3 is a good option if you are shopping for this type of technology. Oh, and then you can play the games, too.

They might want to watch films on blu-ray. The PS3 is expensive for a games console but cheap for an HD player.
