I think myspace has been more successful because it has a better name. It's easier to remember, and is kinda selfish, which people like. MySpace implies that this is the part of the internet where he/she can be themselves and not what others may think is required of them. Friendster sounds like a place where you always have to be someones friend, and people don't like to do the work all the time.

Personally, I've never even heard of friendster until I read this question.

Well the words my space connote a feeling of ownership. This is a very powerful feeling for teens who tend to not have much of their own.
