Heres a serious answer:

To begin with, the definition of the word 'pocket' states that it is 'a small bag-like attachment'. The reason for this particular definition is that the pocket was not originally sewn into garments as it is today. The first pockets were actually small pouches that hung from the belt where one could carry valuables and coins. (where we get the name pocket-book)

The word itself comes from the Anglo-Norman word pokete and traces its roots to the Germanic root word 'bag', Therefore, the definition makes sense. 'Purse' and 'pocket', have the same root word, only one is plural and the other singular.

Since the pocket was on the outside of one's clothing, it was subject to thieves or, more appropriately, cut-purses. More cautious people realized that if they kept their purses inside their trousers, it would deter the pickpockets by making the theft more difficult. This is where the pocket attached to ones clothing comes in. There is no exact date of when they started....only an estimated time somewhere in the 1300-1400s

The earliest historically verifiable handbags-were carried by gentlemen and known as "pockets". These were hung by thongs from the back of the girdle and were often cut and stolen from behind by thieves (like in major cities still today lol)

By the 1400's both men and women were wearing purses, and as times prospered and the little sacks got fuller, they were ornamented with gold or elaborate embroidery. There is no known inventor of the pocket "book" though.

To cut down on crime- pockets were soon sewn into the inside of trousers-but this made it hard for people to reach for what they needed- they would actually have to drop their clothes (revealing body parts) to get what they needed.

The next step in the evolution of the pocket was what most pockets are at first seen as today... a simple slit in the clothing.(1700s)

There is no actual inventor of the pocket itself-only a history of the transition of the invention

Sorry to sound so dorky-but you wanted a serious answer!! Hope this helps...

Don't know. But if I wanted to research it, I would begin with prehistoric times because cavemen probably needed somewhere to carry some small tools or food.
