Problem installing wireless internet.

I have just bought a wireless router (Belkin F5D7230uk4), and it says in the instructions to unplug the wire from the back of your original modem into the slot at the back of the router. However, connecting the modem (BT voyager 105) to the computer is only a usb 2.0 cable, and the router only will hold an ethernet cable. If it helps, from the modem to the telephone socket is a DSL wire. What do I do?

do you think it would be easier to take the router back to the shops and replace it with a modem router?

It sounds to me the only problem that you have is converting USB to and RJ-45 jack. Here is a converter you can use for doing that.

It should have two slots on the modem or an adapter, Use the cable that fits in the wall outlet look in the box, there will be a small cube like thing (the adapter) where you plug the ethernet cable into one end to the router and to the adapter. Then put the smaller cable in the other side of the adapter and into the wall socket. If they forgot to pack the adapter you can buy one for a few bucks.

Matt ... Have you looked at the back of the modem to see whether it also allows a connection via an Ethernet cable?

Although I have a different model modem, I noticed it has both a USB and an Ethernet jack. However, for some reason, I remember my instructions saying they prefer that you use the Ethernet connector.

So, check the back of your modem to see whether there's also an Ethernet connector. If not, you may need to get another kind of modem, I fear. I hope you find the solution. Good luck, Matt.
