I am african american and my wife is japanese and we have a beautiful daughter together. I currently live in san diego, ca, and I am looking for a place that is less costly and has a better school system. I have heard good things about Austin and I am curious about the best parts of town to live in and the most comfortable. I was raised around the clan and the black haters also and this is not something I wan't to expose my daughter to. Any insight will be appreciated, thank you.

Yes, Austin is one of the most culturally diverse cities in America. Our slogan is "Keep Austin Weird", and while I'm not saying that y'all are weird for being an interracial couple (because it's quite normal here), I guess other people might think it is different. Since we are a college city, we have people from all over the world that come to Univ. of Texas, so we have many interracial couples, and no one even notices, much less says anything negative about it. As far as neighborhoods go, you might want to stay away from the Westlake area and Circle C, those are predominantly white neighborhoods, and I'm not saying that these are unaccepting of minorities, I'm just saying there is probably a greater chance of it there. Hope that helps, and good luck with your move!

As long as we keep labels and the African before the American, there will be segregation and conflicts between races and ethnicities. If black and american, you are an AMERICAN. Not an African-American. Political correctness sucks. If anyone has the right to call them selves Americans are the "native" Americans. People ask why we still have racism, well take all the labels and months highlithing someone's skin color and trust me you will do greatness.

I lived in Austen Texas for a year, roughly 20 years ago. It was a good place, but I did feel racial tension there. I'm from the Netherlands and this was the one thing that shocked me the most - as far as culture shock goes. I was in one of the better districts school-wise, but it was almost entirely white. A Mexican type immigrant friend of mine had a real rough time fitting in, however nice she was.

I Don't remember people dissing blacks though. I do remember (now that I think about it) that a friend of mine didn't think races should mix.

In the Austin area there is a large volume of inter racial families (mainly Korean) they are about as accepting as any other Texas City. But the best place might be New Mexico, or even Oklahoma.
