Its not that the moon is getting bigger, its that the earth and moon at certain times are closer in distance making it appear that the moon is bigger.

What Makes The Moon Big Lets See Well Little Bits Of Meteorz Crush Into The Moons Surface Or Dust From Earth Gets Pulled From The Moon And Even Moons Orbits Is Getting Close And Far.

its big relative to the earth as its about one third the size.

the reason it appears bigger at sometimes rather than others is due mainly to optical illusion- it appears bigger that it actually is.

the moon has a slightly elliptical orbit - like a squashed circle. this means it is actually closer to the earth (and appears slightly bigger) at points, and then moves further away.

however, the difference to the human eye is negligible. the real reason that the moon APPEARS to bigger is that we perceive a difference that is not really there.

this effect is not fully understood, but appears to be dependent on or tendency to judge the size of objects in comparison to one another. when the moon is lower in the sky, it appears bigger because we compare it with the objects near the horizon.

this page has links that explain it all:

the moon is actually a very small satellite... there are others in the solar system with the size of the earth. But the moon is very close to earth and that's why we see it big. The sun is much bigger but far away and both moon and sun look roughly of the same size to our eyes.

it somewhat is an optical phantasm. The moon is the comparable length no rely in case you think of it seems larger at one time or yet another. while the moon is finished and on the factor of the horizon you have a physique of connection with "decide" the moon's length. while the moon rises larger in the sky you have no longer have been on condition that comparable connection with the earth.

do you mean when the moon is close to the horizon ? it seems bigger, just an atmosphere distortion effect.

a telescope makes it look big, but its distance from us determines its size to us
