My midwife came out for the 1st tie yesturday, she couldnt feel my uterus and she also couldnt hear the baby's heartbeat, she thinks im only around 7- 8 weeks pregnant. Although after taking the orning after pill last year ive had irregular periods and sometimes nothing at all for around 5 months, so im unsure when my last period was. Is it normal for this to happen?

Yes, your baby does have a heartbeat by now, but is most likely to small to be heard. You should be able to hear it by 10 weeks, unless you are really big, and then it may take to 12 weeks. I am 5'7" and only weighed 107 when I got pregs with my first. I heard hear heartbeat at 7 weeks, my midwife said because I was so skinny there weren't as many layers for the sound to go through, but with my second I was 120 lbs. and couldn't hear it until 10 weeks. But if you don't hear it by 12 weeks, i would worry. Anyway, now they do an ultrasound between 10 and 12 weeks to check the fluid level in the back of the baby's neck as an indication as to whether the baby may have down syndrome or trisomy 21, so ask your ob about this and you should definitley hear the baby's heartbeat that way.

If 7-8 weeks pregnant she should be able to feel your uterus, but with the doppler its very common to not get a heartbeat until week 11 and up,sometimes even later if u have a tilted uterus,if u are big boned etc...good luck!

YES IT IS. DON'T WORRY ABOUT IT, JUST SIT BACK AND ENJOY THE MORNING SICKNESS AND THE BACK ACHES AND MY FAVORITE SNEEZING AND PEEING A LITTLE. IT'S ALL GONNA BE FINE WHEN YOU HOLD THAT BABY FOR THE FIRST TIME. CONGRATS AND GOOD LUCK.
