The machine is about 6 years old, an Indesit. There was a loud bang and as the spinning continued I could see the side of the machine bulging as the drum banged against it. Very scary! The drum is now lower than normal and to one side. Can it be fixed or should I just buy a new one? Thanks!

I agree with the above ..... your machine has had a major mechanical breakdown and diagnosis and repair may be unreasonable bearing in mind the machine age and its current worth. Yes, a new machine would be recommended for peace of mind but if budget doesn't run to that, then a refurb machine from a local dealer might be best for now. And new machines can be so cheap if you go for budget range! Good luck!

HAppened to my Indesit as well and called out a maintenance chap who fixed it for me. If you are not covered by insurance then it might be quicker and cheaper to go for another machine. Took 2 weeks for the chap to come and then two more weeks waiting for a new drum to be fixed. Washing mounts up I promise you!!

Yes, it can be fixed but it won't be cheap. Washing machines are only designed to last about 5 yrs so I would suggest you get a new one.

You have probably had some major structural failure underneath the tub. Might want to consider a new one.
