We had a house fire, I came back and found the firebrigade coming out the front door.

We lost pretty much everything apart from pictures and clothes. We have moved back into our home and been back in it for 2 years but I still pick te wrong drawer for the cutlery and stil doesn't feel like home. Anyone been there and done that?

Your feelings are entirely natural and understandable. You have been through a trauma where something beyond your control at the time has taken a part of your life away and it will take time to make a home again. I think these emotions run in parallel with deaths, relationship break ups etc where trauma and change make us feel differently about life. I have been though all of these and yes, also a house fire, but when I was only very young so I left my parents to pick up the pieces and keep me secure at the time.

Please feel reassured that time will heal here ... it always does ... and your home will regain that warmth and security that it offered before. I remember my first car in life was stolen and I did get it back but it never felt the same ..... just a piece of kit that someone else had had and abused by theft .... but I regained my comfort with it eventually as I have with all unwelcome changes and traumas in my life.

Oh, and as for the wrong cutlery drawer ... just laugh and smile at it ...... you'll soon feel better about it all!

Good Luck !
