Use a public library - if you have a BT phone line Talktalk is the cheapest - phone calls and broadband for £19.99 a month including line rental and calls to codes starting in 01 or 02. The download limit is 40Gb a month - some it's a pathetic 2 Gb. The webspace is only 15 Mb - but you can do a lot with that!

If you mean access to the internet from home, you will need a phone line connected, a modem in your computer or laptop, a modem cable to plug your computer to the phone socket at the wall, then you need to find a free ISP (Internet Service Provider). BT do a free dial-up connection service though you have to fill out a form. Check them out carefully as some 'free' dial-up ISPs don't charge a monthly fee, but the time online can be expensive. One pence, per minute is OK.

You can rent time on a computer at a library or internet cafe for about £1 a time, or £1 an hour - you'll have to check the rates. It's easier to find an internet cafe than it is to find a library, & there'll be people there to help you if you get stuck. They may also be friendlier, too, as libraries tend to require you to be quiet when using their equipment.

There are some bars / caffetterias offering free wi-fi access to internet (you need to bring your laptop).

Otherwise you can access internet (for free) from any local library. But you will need to have a permanent UK address to be eligible for the membership, and their computers and internet connection are not neccesarily good.

You seem to be managing ok. But I would say for someone without a fixed address or broadband connection, then libraries and internet cafes would be a good place to start.

either use public access or (less expensive) use your mobile phone as a modem.
