Our neighbors have a goat tied up in their small fenced in backyard (we live in a residential area that im pretty sure is not allowed to have goats) and its been making sounds for the past couple of days. We think our neighbors are going to eat the goat but we arent sure, but its going to be 15F tonight! And if they are keeping the goat outiside in that cold, we think thats just a no.

I don't think so. I am in Michigan and it is 2 degrees here. THe man on the news said to bring all animals inside! I don't think you could bring a goat in the house, but they should at least have some sort of shelter for it. Maybe you can bring it a big blanket. (probably wouldn't keep it on) Maybe call the police and voice your concerns. GOOD for you for being worried about the goat.

I live in Connecticut and have raised pygmy goats for the last ten years and yes they do get cold even with shelter. I have the best bedding and a very insulated barn and still put a heater on when it goes to single digits. As a matter of fact I was just down there with my fiance and put a safe heater on to keep their body temperature at ease. If I were you I would definatetly call animal wellfare and report them to the town hall. Sounds to me like the goat is hungry or in some kind of discomfort from the cold and perhaps lonely. Goats are herd animals and are dependant upon one another. They are not a good animals left alone especially in the freezing cold. Good luck and I hope the best for the goat.

I am in Wisconsin- Temps are 14 below w/o windchill right now and about 40-45 below with windchill.
If they are warm enough depends on the goat's fur. If they have shelter from the wind, they should be fine. If they are just tied up out there in all the elements- not fine. Tell them to either kill the goat now (if they are planningon eating it) or tell them to bring it in shelter (even just a garage or shed with lots of warm hay) before you call animal control.
We have 3 pygmy goats that have been outside all winter. All are roughly 6-8months. The goats are baahing happily and eating in their little shelter (its like a large insulated dog house) and they are fine in the weather right now. We have checked on them several times, and they are warmer than the dogs- we had to bring the border collie inside!

I used to raise dairy goats. No goats just don't stay worm in winter. They must be fed a good hay to generate heat inside as well as need shelter, adding a heat lamp would be nice also.As for eating goat,it can be quit good depending on how its cooked but you shouldn't torture the animal before you decide its time to eat it.

Call the humane society. It probably should have a barn or housing at night as any farm animals would (beside if it is in the city, then I don't think it is legal to keep farm animals in the city limits).
