Why did he put a lemon on the window of the spacecraft on the apollo 1 mission?

Grissom was convinced the Block I command module was flawed, as there had been many nagging problems with it as it was being tested. It never was quite right (obviously) though nothing serious was ever detected.

The Lemon episode would have been a visual statement (not that Gus ever was at a loss for words with regard to spacecraft design and function) that he thought the command module was a "Lemon", similar to autos that are not right and cannot be repaired to proper condition.
