Somehow, I'm a little skeptical of the idea that you just woke up from a 6 yr coma, and hopped onto Yahoo! Answers to ask about the GOP.....

oh wow, 6 years.... that's gonna take some time to fill in...
basically this happened: we all realized that it's not a two-party system, it's a one-party system - the Republicocrats. They pass the time by volleying control back and forth using a smattering of unimportant but attention-grabbing issues. This all just to make sure a third (second) party doesn't edge in on their turf. To complicate things, they talk about liberal vs. conservative ideas. When one party starts to accrue too many followers, they just do stupid things in office until it balances back out.
Also, we've all agreed to ignore these facts and just pretend like things are normal. Go, Obama!
