I would go to a shelter for battered women. They will advise you where, and what you should do.

I would contact your local bar association and see whether you qualify for either a pro bono attorney or a "low fee" attorney. If you are unable to hire an attorney at this time, I also suggest that you set up some consultations with various attorneys. Many lawyers do free consultations, so even if you are unable to retain their services, they can give you some direction on going about the process on your own. Good luck.

What you need to do is go down to your magistrate office and get temporary custody.....Anyone can do this so you need to beat him to it! The lawyers can come later right now you need temporary custody and it is free to do this.....Whoever gets temp custody gets to have the child live with them while the custody battle drags on.....This is first stepo you need to do....do not assume because you are the childs mother that you already have custody....If he files before you then the police have the right to take the baby from you......

You are so right in saying it isnt fair for your 2 year old to see and live in that environment!!! I was married to an abusive man and didnt want my children to grow up with that. If I would have stayed that cycle would have carried over to my kids thinking that is how life should be. So good for you in recognizing not wanting your child to be raised that way. I applaud you! Since you seem to have a computer go and search your states website for help with an attorney. Also do you have family support? Are their any domestic shelters there for women? That would be a good place for you to start. They offer counseling and help when it comes to legal matters, that is how it is where i live. You would be safe there and get the help you need. Or if you dont have family support that would be a good place for you to start. I was lucky for I had family who helped me. I did go stay in the shelter for a few days though after I left. Like I said they did help and offered good advice on what to do next. I also feel verbal abuse is worse than the physical abuse I endured. Bruises fade but words can stay with you longer. he took my self esteem from me and I got to the point I didnt even care how I looked. But once I broke free I decided I needed to make myself happy. Not only for me but for my kids. It was hard at times with working and raising kids alone but I did it. You can do it also, I devoted my life to raising my kids and always put them first. I didnt go out and party or date for my responsiblity was my kids. Now that I raised them it is my time now to do what I want. But I devoted my life to them. You recognize you dont want to raise your child in that environment, that is the first step. Now do something about it, dont live that way any longer. It will be hard at times but you can do it. Get help today and make a fresh start. If you dont have family to turn to check out the shelters. Good luck to you, I will be cheering you on!
