Although in the US there are a number of laws that are not enforced unpon the body politic a number of these laws were introduced to proect lawmakers from political prosuction. I believe that the real problem is in our justice system. Political wrong doers often are well represented and end up most of little or no punishment when caught doing wrong. This reflects itself through out soceity as wealth and afluent are able to spend a fortune on legal fees and avoid punishment. Example O.J Simpson and Michael Jackson.

Because the political system is currupt. Those laws apply to everybody. Some think they don't or can afford lawyers who can play on a loop hole in our great laws.
Beautiful part is we live in a democracy and most information is available.
There are watchdog groups out there... you see or hear of something let them know. We the citizens must do what we can to prevent that person from being re-elected and even removed from office.
Too many Americans have forgotten that the politicians work for the citizens, and many don't vote for whatever reason.

(Mama Squirrel jumps up and down cheering for Shovel Kicker's short essay). Completely agree, man! Its nice to see another thinker on Yahoo! Answers rather than the extremists who prefer to spread their wisdom by insults!

I think myself that we have more machinery of government than is necessary, too many parasites living on the labor of the industrious.-Thomas Jefferson
The democracy will cease to exist when you take away from those who are willing to work and give to those who would not. -Thomas Jefferson
Most bad government has grown out of too much government.-Thomas Jefferson
Were we directed from Washington when to sow and when to reap, we should soon want bread.-Thomas Jefferson
We must not let our rulers load us with perpetual debt. We must make our election between economy and liberty or profusion and servitude. If we run into such debt, as that we must be taxed in our meat and in our drink, in our necessaries and our comforts, in our labors and our amusements, for our calling and our creeds...[we will] have no time to think, no means of calling our miss-managers to account but be glad to obtain subsistence by hiring ourselves to rivet their chains on the necks of our fellow-sufferers... And this is the tendency of all human governments. A departure from principle in one instance becomes a precedent for[ another]... till the bulk of society is reduced to be mere automatons of misery... And the fore-horse of this frightful team is public debt. Taxation follows that, and in its train wretchedness and oppression.-Thomas Jefferson
