A more relevant and important question is, "What is AFRICA doing to make Africa a better place?"
And the answer to that question is, "not much."
If the governments of that country won't help themselves, why should they expect aid from the rest of the world, and why should we give it?
Nope, sorry, there are more important things for me to give my money to - like helping the poor in my OWN country.

buying more coal
selling them guns
selling them bullets
selling them knives
saying "oh how tragic" then looking the other way
allowing genocide to continue
letting children fire gund bigger than they are
and, best of all, not a god damned thing

More chickens are being fried today and more watermelons grown than ever before.
Give them some pot-seeds, so Africa can at least grow to be happy and chilled (they might not war so much then).

Not very much. As little as possible, except in Nigeria with it's oil, then they'll make it worse.

nothing ! or at least , nothing that governments could do -- after all they have their reputations to think about --- maybe the problems will go away !!! ( they wish )
