It seems to me that those on the political right in America glamorize war to the point of hero worship. They are constantly identifying enemies both at home and abroad only for the sake of giving them a cause. Is this a primal urge, a form of tribalism?

For about 100 years Republicans have had a policy of declaring a particular group as the "enemy" of America.

They have to do this because if they ran on their platform of pro-big business profit at any cost, no one would vote for them.

They have taken this so far as to make an enemy of those that don't want to start wars, or spend a fortune on the military.

It is also a major component of the psychograph making up the conservative, which is violence as the first response to almost anything.

I am a conservative. I do not glamorize war. I abhor it. But, I have the good sense to recognize when it becomes necessary. Unlike liberals, I am not afraid to fight evil wherever I find it.

Identifying enemies, if they exist, is a good thing. We have to always be prepared to defend ourselves. I don't give enemies "cause" to do anything but fear me and my military might. It worked with Communist nations who were threats in the past.

Your so-called "primal urge" and "tribalism" are concepts which, if they existed, would affect all persons in a population.

Winston Churchill was credited with saying: "If you are not a liberal by the time you are 21, you do not have a heart. If you are not a conservative by the time you are 40, you don't have a brain."

I believe that. It explains why people switch from liberal to conservative as they age. To my knowledge, young conservatives don't become older liberals.

Its actually a form of hidden-liberal conservatism that popped up during the McCarthy era. Rather than believing in small government, fiscal responsibility, and individual responsibility, they have decided that big government and overblown budgets are necessary to engineer the world and our society to their liking rather than let things go as the naturally might. And like the liberals, they don't seem to realize that humans are too stupid to realize that there are just as many consquences to micromanaging everything as there is to letting something rot.

And frankly, if it doesn't work for the admitted liberals, its not going to work for the closet liberals hiding in conservative clothes either.

We don't glamorize war. We honor those who are willing to sacrifice their lives in order to protect our freedom. We honor their bravery, their love of country.

As far as identifying enemies, if you haven't noticed, there are a large number of Islamic radicals who want this country to disappear off the map. If they aren't our enemies, who is.

Unfortunately, yes.

I think it comes with the territory of being rich and never serving yourself.

Everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, it doesn't mean it's right.
