I personally feel its sangakkara.Dhoni is yet to prove that he can play equally well outside indian tracks. He is good but i think we should give him more time to reach that position.

Well this is for the people who have answered the question based on batting speed.Remember speed isn't everything in cricket.Patience, consistency and everything takes into count. So it gives the answer who the best one is.

It will most likely be Kumar Sangakkara, as he is a tremendously classy batsman who can adapt to any situation. He is right up there amongst the best batsmen in the world, so you would think it would be him.
The only real challenger would be Mark Boucher, who has a tremendous cricketing brain, and is a great player, who seems to be hitting a good patch of form in the last 12 months. Why Ray Jennings dropped him as keeper I will never know, tho I guess it was Boucher being out of favour with Jennings that got AB DeVilliers into the side.
Dhoni for me is too inconsistent to challenge. If he can begin to get more consistency in both aspects of his game then he can challenge.

Mark Boucher has to be the world's second best keeper-batsman after Adam Gilchrist. His performance today against Pakistan was absolutely stunning. 78 from 38 balls is a unique feat even for an experienced one-day batsman, let alone someone who keeps as well. He has shown great maturity, especially in the shorter form of the game, never letting his team down when a good innings is needed to steady the boat. His fifty in the Greatest One-Day Match Ever was superbly timed and was probably the deciding factor in South Africa's win. Finally, with the gloves no international keeper can come close to his skill and reliability. There is no doubt about it - Mark Boucher is definitely the next best keeper-batsman in international cricket!

Kumar Sanagakkara because he is a consistent performer with bat compared to Dhoni or Boucher.Akmal is not that experienced.Sangakkara is an elegant batsman and also a fine wicket-keeper. All of them has the ability to be the best!!!

Kumar Sangakkara. But there is a question of him not keeping wickets in the future cauz he will be messing his batting and its too tiring.he is no doubt a world class player and has proved do. Dhoni needs more time to settle. He can only play on indian turfs. He has yet to prove scoring outside india. But he is a good keeper. But Kumar is no doubt the best...

Kumar Sanagakkara doesn't need to take the place of Gilchrist because Sanagakkara is the best wicket keeper batsman in the world today.

Sangakara is currently the best wicketkeeper batsmen besides Gilchrist. So, logically it would be him.
But after Gilchrist Australia needs a new keeper which will most likely be Brad Haddin. Who is no slouch with the bat.
So it will come down to whether Sangakara can stay at this level and how well Haddin can do at international level.
