Doing an AS biology presentation on physical diseases. Any suggestions? The more unusual the better, I'm stuck for ideas and the presentation has to last at least 10 minutes so I need a lot of them!

Necrotizing faciitis is a pretty interesting physical disease--it's caused by a bacteria that eats away at human flesh--literally. Fortunately, it's rare! It would be easy to find a lot of info on it, though. You could talk about how to diagnose it, how it's transmitted, etc.--and maybe talk about how it compares with other skin diseases that produce similar symptoms, like Staph infections (caused by the bacteria Staphylococcus). The Streptococcus bacteria also produces similar symptoms. Find some cool pics online to add visuals, and you'll have your audience's attention for sure!

Good luck!

Anything caused by a bacteria or virus or fungus is a physical disease.

HIV/AIDS, Ebola, H1N1 (that's 1918) or H5N1 (bird flu) influenza are all viral diseases. (Technically, HIV is a retrovirus, which is encoded in RNA instead of DNA.)

Pneumonia (mention pneumocystis carinii pneumonia if you talk about AIDS), SARS, and E.coli food poisoning are all bacterial diseases. Interestingly, E.coli is critical for our health; they help with the digestion of our food.

Fungal infections are usually skin issues. Athlete's foot is a fungal infection. They are usually treated with skin lotions, although there are some antifungal pills as well.
