You could try dumping half a box of baking soda in the drain and letting it sit for an hour and then running hot water down the drain.

If that doesn't work:
You could try pouring a cup bleach down the drain.

And if that doesn't work or you want to go straight for the big guns;
Use a commercial drain cleaner such as Drain-o. Make sure it is a foaming cleaner not a chemical unclogger since the drain is not clogged.

Don't use bleach and the drain cleaner on the same day. You will want plenty of water to run through the drain between treatments since you don't want a weird chemical reaction from the bleach and the drain cleaner.

First, be sure there is no ROTTEN food there.
No old meat(CHIKEN SKIN) in the food waste disposer sticky.
Don,t tamper with the wast disposer without first disconnect complethy the power from the main circuit breaker.Or at least cover the switch( that control the waste disoser) with a strong tape, so you will not have any severe injury!
If none of these has nothing to do with the smell then check for growing mold and mildew on the bottom surface of the top counter, also on the walls of that base sink cabinet.
Be sure you don,t have smell coming from GAS LINE

If cleaning out your immediate drains don't work, you might have a bigger problem. In our house, we had a problem where the trash from the garbage disposal was ending up between the foundation and the house, creating a huge mess. The smell permeated up through the sinks and no amount of Drano Max would help.

Sounds like rotting food.

- Make sure your dish rag is clean. Wash it every couple of days. It can go sour and smell bad!

- Run some draino or pipe cleaning stuff down the drain.
- Believe it not. I like to spray some Super Clean down the drain. ( found in auto part stores ) It helps keep the drain clog free and clean.
- Pour bleach down the drain
- Clean your gargabe dissposal.
- Worse comes to worse. remove the trap or U-shape pipe and clean it out or replace it.

Pour a whole bottle of Coke down it, the acidity of the Coke will loosen up the food that is trapped in the sink, then Pour some bleach down it followed by running the water in the drain for a long time, to eliminate the food and the stench in your sink.

This is a sure fire way to defunkify your sink...sprinkle some baking soda down the drain, then pour some white vinegar over the top of that...it will start to fizz...then run water down the sink after the fizzing stops. The odor will be gone and you will not do damage to the pipes. This method has worked for me for well over 25 years!

Does it smell like sulpher? (eggs) This smell gets trapped in pipes from the increase of sulpher dioxide.....and this usually happens when it rains heavy for a few days, or snow run off..... When the water table rises I tend to notice these smells, usually from my bathroom tub or sink and it disappears after a few dry days of no rain...You can flush your pipes or just wait it out...Even though it is stinky this sulpher is not harmful. If it is chronic you can have your pipes inspected.......I had a really useful link on smelly pipes in sinks and bathrooms in regards to what I mentioned here but cant find it for you again :( You can get a water purification system if it really bothers you.....but I just watched the weather in regards to the smell and noticed it went away after the rain subsided...You will also smell chrorine when it rains a lot too.....none of it is harmful though.....

Has this sink been sitting without any water running on it for some days/weeks/months? You just have to run it with water for a few seconds to fill the drain. The foul smell will go away.

One time I had this problem. But it was coming from the basement. It smelled like rotten eggs. I had heard that the utility company puts a rotten egg smell in the natural gas (since natural gas has no smell), so I thought I had a gas leak. I was told to periodically dump water down the drain. No gas leak. Better safe than sorry :)
