Hi Rusty!
Horses get exsposed to worms by being around other horses, either sharing pastures or pens with manure piles. So the more horses your horse is around, the smarter it is to use a GOOD paste wormer like Ivermectrin about every two months. If she lives totally alone, every 3-4 months would keep her healthy, for worms do grow in cycles inside horses, and in a few cycles sometimes wormers just wont get them all, that's why it's good to do at least 2 a couple weeks apart if you dont know her health history real well.
Read all the wormer packages and talk lots with other horsefolk or the feed/pet store people, make sure you get a broad spectrum type wormer, for many of the cheap ones will not get rid of every type of worm, and only a vet with a microscope and a fresh road apple can tell you exactly what worms she may be hiding inside her.
Worms are sneaky, and they're nearly everywhere in a horse's enviornment. Even horses that look fat and shiny can be carrying a load of em, and they do some longterm damage to horse guts if they're untreated. (They also mess with efficent use of the food ya feed, causing you to spend more money feeding more food than your horse really needs.)
The broad spectrum wormers like Zimectrin by Farnum do a good job of de-worming, are quite safe, and easy to use. They do, though, taste like **** to a horse; and many horses get wise to you sticking that little squirt of yuck in their mouths and will resist ya if possible. Be aware she may toss her head or stomp at the taste and be safe while ya dose. I'm pretty fast, smooth and sneaky with a worming syringe, and I always have a bite of carrot, apple, or grain in my pocket to instantly offer afterwards so I usually dont tie them up, and many horses can be casually snuck up on without even haltering them.
Congratulations on being a good horseowner, and keeping your mare healthy! Remember to keep yourself safe too, and have fun with her.

I'm going out on a hunch here but if I didn't know how often to give my critter something and it didn't say on the package then I probably wouldn't take my chances by giving it to them in the first place. Besides if there's this much unknown info what about the side effects and etc. You may want to get a vet involved or atleast someone with more experience and help than some random responce from who knows where on Yahoo Answers...

about every 6-8 weeks. They don't need a lot, and of course over doseing them is never good.

I use a paste dewormer and you are supposed to use one of those every 8 weeks. Regular dewormer paste does not cover tapeworms tho, so you need to deworm for tapeworms every 6 months, and usually people will 'double-dose' (use 2 tubes of paste)when they use Strongid (tapeworm dewormer) it is completely safe for an adult horse, but a 500 pound pony will only need 1tube of paste. There are also powder and pellet methods that you apply over the feed everyday. This is more expensive. My deworming methods for 1 of my adult horses.
Every 8 weeks- 1 tube of Zimecterin http://www.statelinetack.com/global/product_detail.jsp?PRODUCT%3C%3Eprd_id=845524441774605&FOLDER%3C%3Efolder_id=2534374302029581&ASSORTMENT%3C%3East_id=2534374302024177&bmUID=1170607456726&itemNo=10&In=Horse&N=2029581&Ne=156695
